Repower Industries - Interregional Event in Milan

On December 3, the first day of the Interregional Event of the Repower Industries project, organized by the Lombardy Energy Cleantech Cluster (LE2C), was held at the Sala Gonfalone of the Lombardy Region in Milan.

The Repower Industries project aims to stimulate international knowledge exchange and the sharing of best practices among industry players, with a particular focus on European policies related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and storage.

The first day of the event was attended by numerous experts, institutions, companies, and research centers from across Europe, who came together to discuss three critical issues for the future of European industry:

  1. Renewable Energy: a central theme for the transition to a low-carbon society.
  2. Energy Storage: managing and storing renewable energy is one of the biggest challenges to ensuring the continuity and stability of the energy system.
  3. Industrial Process Efficiency: reducing consumption and optimizing production processes are key steps toward industrial sustainability.

These issues were the focus of discussions aimed at developing innovative solutions that can contribute to a sustainable and independent energy future, reducing dependence on traditional energy sources and geopolitical variables.

One of the highlights of the day was the Interactive Workshop, led by Michal Tobias from the Czech Technical University in Prague, the project leader. This workshop provided participants with an opportunity to explore the benefits, challenges, and barriers related to energy independence. It was an inspiring opportunity for experts and practitioners to share concrete ideas for addressing future challenges and developing sustainable solutions essential for European industry.

During the day, LE2C also organized a study visit to the headquarters of Tenova, a global leader in industrial engineering and a model of excellence in sustainability. Participants had the opportunity to closely examine the innovative solutions adopted by the company, including:

  • A photovoltaic plant in Castellanza, which powers Pomini Tenova technologies using renewable energy.
  • TenovaLAB, an advanced laboratory for the development of next-generation burners, also powered by hydrogen, as part of the European HyTecHeat_H2020 project.
  • Advanced solutions to optimize production processes, reduce consumption, and lower CO2 emissions.

These concrete examples demonstrated how technological innovation and energy efficiency can go hand in hand, bringing significant benefits in both economic and environmental terms.

The first day of the Interregional Event highlighted the importance of international collaboration in addressing the challenges of sustainability and energy self-sufficiency. The meeting between institutions, companies, and researchers laid the foundation for a greener, more innovative, and sustainable industrial future in Europe.

With the continued support of European policies and cooperation among various industry players, the goal of transforming the energy landscape of European industries is becoming increasingly achievable. The Repower Industries project continues to progress, aiming to bring about a significant change in energy management and usage, fostering an energy transition that ensures an independent, equitable, and sustainable energy future for all.
