On April 23, 2024, join LE2C's event to be updated on the latest European legislation regarding sustainable packaging management
Packaging is one of the greatest environmental issues of today. They are a significant user of virgin materials (40&% of plastic and 50 percent of paper used in the EU is for packaging) and account for 36% of urban solid waste, posing as a priority for the development of a low-carbon circular economy.
In order to address this challenge, the European Commission has set 2030 as the deadline to make all packaging reusable or recyclable. This requires immediate and coordinated actions by all EU members.
LE2C is organizing the Dual Track Governance scenario building workshop "End of Waste: Innovation and Sustainable Packaging Management. The new European Plastics Legislation.", focused on the topic of packaging sustainability, taking a closer look at new European regulations related to "End of Waste."
The event will be held in presence and in Italian.
The workshop will be held on April 23, 2024 at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - CNR, Via Alfonso Corti,12 - 20133, Milan, Italy.
The event will open with greetings from the President of the LE2C Cluster, Riccardo Bellato, followed by the speech of the Lombardy Region Councillor, Giorgio Maione, and the international keynote speaker, Lia Voermans, who will address the topic of plastics and related regional and European policies. A noteworthy spot will be dedicated to Syschemiq, the European project in which LE2C is a partner in, which aims to accelerate the transition to a circular economy for plastics.
The event will end in a round table discussion, where experts in the field, representatives from institutions, industry associations, industries, and in research, will address the challenges and opportunities related to the new plastics legislation and tools for efficient packaging waste management.
The "Dual Track Governance scenario building workshop" is organized under the framework of the activities of the European project SYSCHEMIQ n. 101059909 CO-FINANCED BY HORIZON-CL6-2021-CIRCBIO-01.
