Donelli Alexo: A Good Practice from Lombardy for Energy Independence

Donelli Alexo S.r.l., a member of LE2C, has been selected as a European best practice within the Repower Industries initiative—a project funded by the Interreg Europe program, in which LE2C is a partner—that promotes the exchange of experiences and innovative solutions to accelerate the energy transition and strengthen the resilience of the European industrial sector.

The Repower Industries project, funded by the Interreg Europe Program, promotes the exchange of knowledge and best practices on policies and solutions related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and energy storage, with the goal of strengthening the energy independence and resilience of the European industrial sector.

Donelli Alexo participated in the “Transition toward the REC Ecosystem” initiative, supported by the Lombardy Region through the Filiere & Ecosistemi 2023 program, which proposes a collaborative model to guide companies through the energy transition by integrating technical, regulatory, and design expertise.

At the Cuggiono CX industrial site, the technical support and feasibility studies conducted as part of the initiative helped Donelli Alexo build a 250 kWp photovoltaic system, along with energy efficiency upgrades and the configuration of a remote self-consumption system powered by renewable sources, which was subsequently validated by the GSE.

The results achieved clearly demonstrate the impact of this initiative: the facility produces approximately 296 MWh of electricity per year, while self-generated energy has increased by 507% compared to 2023 levels. The project also involved more than 10 employees in dedicated training activities, strengthening internal expertise on new models of energy production and sharing.

Donelli Alexo’s experience demonstrates how an ecosystem of expertise and collaboration can help companies transform energy transition needs into concrete investments by combining renewable energy, efficiency, training, and technical support.

This case thus represents a good practice aligned with Repower Industries’ objectives and an experience of interest to other European regions, demonstrating how collaboration among businesses, institutions, experts, and innovation stakeholders can help build a more self-sufficient, resilient, and sustainable industry.
