Dipartimento di Ingegneria e Scienze Applicate_Gruppo di ricerca EST: Sistemi Energetici e Turbomacchine

The research group Energy Systems and Turbomachinery operates at the Department of Engineering and Applied Energy of University of Bergamo.The research activities focus on a wide range of topics in the field of fluidmachinery, power plant technologies and renewable energy.The group has a long-time experience in experimental investigations and development of computer model for the performance prediction of energy systems.

The main research fields are:

1. Power plants and energy efficiency.
Modeling of fossil fuel/renewable/hybrid energy systems; performance prediction under variable operating conditions;

2. Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants.
Simulation of different plant configurations (different solar fields, heat transfer fluid, thermal storage and power block)  to predict actual performance in real operating conditions.

3. Aero-thermal investigation of gas turbine blades.
Thermo-Fluid dynamic analysis and experimental investigations of film-cooled gas turbine vanes and blades in wind tunnels.

Building energy efficiency. Simulation and energy performance prediction of  building envelop and HVAC system. Both thermal load and transient behavior of the energy plant throughout an entire year of operation are carried out.to assess the energy use of a building to properly size heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, depending on site location, building massing and orientation as well as internal gains.
