Established in 1995, Secam (acronym for "Società per l'Ecologia e l'Ambiente") is a publicly owned joint-stock company, owned by the 77 municipalities of the province of Sondrio, the five Mountain Communities, and the Provincial Administration of Sondrio.

 

With over 300 employees, SECAM actively engages in the fields of urban hygiene, integrated waste management, integrated water services, and the production of clean and renewable energy.

The company provides a wide range of services:

  1. Integrated water service management: Certified according to the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard, SECAM manages the integrated water service for the Optimal Territorial Area of the Province of Sondrio, providing approximately 14 million cubic meters of drinking water annually and ensuring its quality through purification processes.
  2. Sewage: They manage the collection and conveyance of wastewater into the public sewer system.
  3. Purification plants: Through mechanical, chemical, and biological processes, they treat wastewater discharged into the public sewer system, purifying it from pollutants before reintroducing it into the natural environment.
  4. Urban waste management: SECAM plans and implements the collection and transportation of urban waste.
  5. Collection of special waste: They offer a dedicated service to artisanal, commercial, and industrial companies, personalized to meet specific customer needs.
  6. Management of hazardous waste: SECAM manages the hazardous waste collection service with differentiated approaches based on the origin and nature of the waste.
  7. Waste treatment: They are responsible for managing waste treatment for the entire province of Sondrio.
  8. Clean energy production: Leveraging the water resources of the Ciocca spring in Tirano and possessing 23 photovoltaic plants distributed throughout various points in the province of Sondrio, they produce electricity. Additionally, they operate a biogas cogeneration plant in the municipality of Postalesio, converting organic materials into electricity.
