E-distribuzione is the company inside Enel group that operates in the electrical distribution sector, with activities related to electricity transport and voltage transformation, plant management and operation (development and maintenance actions). It is responsible for the clients’ and producers’ connection services, for the withdrawn and injected electricity transport and metering through the installation and maintenance of the metering devices and the detection of the electrical data measurements. The company is involved in innovative projects like the Smart Grids, a future concept of electrical grids, which aims at promoting the active demand, the electrical mobility and the grid flexibility in order to allow the integration of renewable sources. These innovative grids can help supplying final users’ tools for their consumption optimization and the global system functioning (active demand) and developing the electrical vehicles charge network. In the electrical distribution sector these innovations will guarantee the reliability and flexibility of the electricity supply, the effectiveness of the energy distribution and the flexibility of the peak load management, with an increasing awareness for the final users about their consumption pattern as well as an incentive for a smart energy utilization. The grid evolution toward the concept of Smart Grid has been made possible thanks to activities already implemented by Enel Distribuzione, such as the smart metering systems diffusion (with the active management of the grid) and the concept of remote control and automation (for the continuity and quality of the electrical supply). The electrical vehicle recharge infrastructure and the electrical storage for the renewable generation integration play a crucial role in this context of grid evolution.
