The municipality of Legnano is located around 27km to the north-west of central Milan, on the border between the provinces of Varese and Milan. It has 57,000 inhabitants and total surface area of 96.59km2. Legnano is experiencing intense infrastructural development and represents a key hub for the northern Milan area as a result of its size, infrastructure and services offered (court, state police headquarters, decentralised regional and provincial administration offices, hospital, trade facilities, educational infrastructure and a wide range of third-sector, welfare and free-time services).
