Climate Challenge: Innovative solutions and resilience strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change

For the annual conference #LE2CDay2026, LE2C organised a discussion dedicated to decarbonisation, material recovery and the circular economy to strengthen the resilience of energy systems and accelerate the sustainable transition.

On 14 April 2026, as part of the annual event #LE2CDay2026, LE2C brought to the centre of the debate a crucial issue for our future: how to transform climate challenge into an opportunity for innovation and sustainable development.

The conference  “Climate Challenge: Innovative solutions and resilience strategies to tackle climate change  offered a concrete approach to the impacts of climate change, promoting innovative solutions and operational strategies for the resilience of industrial systems.

The event was held on 14 April 2026 at the Politecnico di Milano - EN:lab | Dipartimento di Energia, Edificio 31, Via Lambruschini - 20156 Milano

This year the focus was on three key areas:

  •  European and regional climate policies;
  • Innovative technologies for material recovery and the decarbonisation of energy systems;
  • Operational strategies for resilience and adaptation to climate change.

An opportunity to deepen how the circular economy, technological innovation and collaboration between public and private actors can generate concrete and measurable impacts.

THE CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

The conference programme was organised into a series of institutional and technical interventions designed to offer an integrated vision of policies and solutions in the field.

It opened with an in-depth study of the climate policies of the Lombardy Region, thanks to the contribution of the Councillor for the Environment and Climate Giorgio Maione, who illustrated the regional strategic lines to address environmental challenges in the coming years.

It was followed by a focus on the shared commitment of companies and citizens on the path towards climate neutrality, with the intervention of the Ambassador of the Climate Pact, Gianni Tartari, who brought a European perspective on the concrete actions necessary to accelerate the transition.

Ample space has been dedicated to innovative projects related to the recovery of materials, with an in-depth look at the experiences of Tech4Lib and F.O.S.F.O.R.O., concrete examples of how research and innovation can generate scalable solutions to support the circular economy and energy sustainability.

The conference ended with a moment of comparison between companies, institutions and operators in the sector, during which operational strategies for resilience and adaptation to climate change were analysed, favouring a dialogue oriented to identify tools and collaborations capable of producing measurable impacts in the medium and long term.

A concrete opportunity to share visions, strengthen the innovation ecosystem and respond to climate challenges with a systemic and future-oriented approach.
